Say No to Wharton State Forest Vehicle Permits

Have you heard about the new plan New Jersey is devising for Wharton State Forest? They want to start charging residents expensive vehicle permits to use the roads in Wharton State Forest - roads we’ve been driving on for many decades.

News articles have shown these permits could potentially match the $195 per-vehicle permits the state charges for Island Beach State Park. The Department of Environmental Protection is currently holding virtual only meetings to discuss the plan, hiding behind the veneer that these are “stakeholder” meetings. Well we don’t remember them asking me or you if we wanted to start paying to use the roads in Wharton State Forest.

Whether you fish, hunt, hike or just like going for a drive, the forest can be enjoyed by all, and has been for a long time, without charging vehicles hundreds of dollars to drive in it.

The DEP already has an over $250 million budget and does not need to create a new, expensive permit fee. Sign the petition so we can send it to the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection and show them that their new permit fee scheme is not wanted in our backyard.
